Our Review of Dallas Fort Worth Airport (DFW)
Our Review of Dallas Fort Worth Airport (DFW)
At Plan Your Trips, we have analyzed hundreds of airports around the world, gaining a clear understanding of what users expect when visiting an airport. With this know-how, we have created this guide, placing passengers at the forefront of everything, aiming to simplify and enhance the airport experience.
In this Guide, our goal is to present information in a manner that is both quick and reliable. Recognizing that passengers often have limited time and may be in a hurry, we strive to ensure that they do not waste time unnecessarily.
Another key focus of our guide is to highlight the strengths of the airport and also the weaknesses, and in some cases, offer recommendations to travelers. In alignment with this approach, we provide users with aggregated information on delays and on-time performance, analyzing both airlines and individual flights.
Other Reviews
Sources used
To analyze passenger opinion about the airport, I reviewed comments and ratings from two widely used platforms:
- Google Reviews, where thousands of travelers share recent experiences after using the airport.
- Skytrax, a specialized aviation review platform where passengers evaluate airports according to criteria such as cleanliness, staff service, security, signage, and facilities.
Skytrax currently classifies DFW as a 3-Star Airport, meaning it provides an overall “average to good” passenger experience across facilities, comfort, services, and staff interaction.
Below is a synthesis of the most common opinions appearing repeatedly in those reviews.
Summary of passenger reviews
Positive aspects frequently mentioned
1. Large and well-organized hub
Many travelers highlight that despite its enormous size, DFW is relatively well organized. The terminal layout and the Skylink train make connections between terminals fairly efficient.
2. Good cleanliness standards
Passengers frequently mention clean terminals and restrooms, especially in the newer areas like Terminal D.
3. Wide range of restaurants and shops
Reviews often praise the variety of food options and retail stores available across terminals, which is typical of a major international hub.
4. Good signage and navigation
Many travelers say that signage is clear and that it is relatively easy to find gates or connections.
5. Strong connectivity and flight options
As one of the main hubs for American Airlines, travelers appreciate the large number of destinations and connection possibilities.
Negative aspects commonly mentioned
1. Very large airport (long walking distances)
One of the most repeated complaints is the huge size of the airport, which can require long walks if passengers are unfamiliar with the Skylink train.
2. Security queues and TSA delays
Several travelers report long wait times at security checkpoints, especially during peak hours.
3. Immigration delays for international arrivals
Some reviews mention slow immigration processing when multiple international flights arrive simultaneously.
4. Occasional confusion in certain terminals
Although signage is generally good, some passengers say the terminal layout can still be confusing for first-time visitors.
5. Flight delays and congestion
Because DFW is one of the busiest hubs in the United States, travelers sometimes associate the airport with delays and heavy traffic, which can impact the experience.
Overall rating based on reviews
Final score: 7.5 / 10
Justification
DFW generally receives solid but not outstanding reviews. Passengers tend to appreciate the airport’s efficiency as a major hub, its cleanliness, and the wide range of services available. However, its enormous size and the heavy traffic typical of a major connecting airport lead to common complaints about walking distances, queues, and occasional delays.
In short, travelers tend to view Dallas Fort Worth International Airport as a very functional hub airport: efficient and well equipped, but sometimes busy and overwhelming due to its scale.

How we calculate On Time Performance
On various pages of our website, you will encounter a metric widely utilized in aviation and other forms of transportation known as OTP (On Time Performance). We believe that providing this metric assists passengers in planning their trips and exploring alternatives before purchasing their flight tickets.
We calculate the On Time Performance for all flights and airlines, when we have enough data to do so. In certain instances, it may not be feasible to accurately compute the On-Time Performance for a specific flight or airline due to inadequate or non-representative data, which could result in misleading conclusions.
Our calculation of On Time Performance and delay information solely relies on arrival times. This approach is chosen over calculating departure delays, as we consider arrival punctuality to be of primary concern to passengers.
The On Time Performance displayed on our website is calculated as follows:
- On Time: Flights that arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time, or earlier. In the absence of data for a specific flight, we assume the flight arrives on time, to avoid penalizing airlines for data unavailability.
- Moderate Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay of 15 to 30 minutes.
- Significant Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay of 30 to 60 minutes.
- Major Delay: Flights that arrive with a delay exceeding 60 minutes.
- Average Delay: The average delay is calculated by considering flights that arrive early as having a delay of 0 minutes. Early arrivals do not contribute to reducing the average delay calculation
